OneAmerica’s Level Up Day helps Shepherd students strengthen skills and find inspiration

August 21, 2026

Students catch glimpses of what their future may hold in a variety of ways, which is why a range
of opportunities to learn and be inspired is so important.

For a Shepherd Community Center student named Adrian, inspiration came through
participation in OneAmerica Financial’s Level Up Day, an event designed to show students
possible career opportunities in the financial services industry.

“Adrian was very excited throughout the day,” Bekah Kidd, Shepherd’s chief program officer,
said. “He is typically a harder student to engage, but the topics and presentations were great,
and he was engaged and interested the whole time.”

In June, OneAmerica gave 20 high school students from Shepherd the opportunity to
participate in the program. In addition to learning career and life skills, each student received a
laptop and was given information about scholarship opportunities.

This was the first year for Shepherd students to participate in Level Up Day, but OneAmerica
has been a key partner of Shepherd for many years.

“This was a well-run event,” Kidd said. “OneAmerica was able to engage with a number of our
students with the hope of helping them grow not only in their understanding of finances but
also awareness of the opportunities available to them through great partners in our
community.”
