Executive Director Jay Height interviews long time friend John Lechleiter, talking about the chapters of leadership and how to keep to a long-term vision when the focus is being pulled in many other directions.
Dr. John Lechleiter, the former president and CEO of Eli Lilly and Company, steered the company through significant change and economic adversity during his eight-year tenure. Alongside his corporate leadership, he actively engages in various community and healthcare initiatives, co-chairing the Indiana Mental Health Roundtable and contributing to numerous advisory councils and boards, including those of Marian University, IUPUI School of Science, and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
Recognized for his service, Dr. Lechleiter, alongside his wife Sarah, received the Charles L. Whistler Award in 2016 for their commitment to the Indianapolis community.
“I think the greatest peril is not keeping in mind the long-term, the reason why you exist. You have a mission, a goal and you want to grow that – to make it better, strong. The leader has to ask themselves ‘Am I furthering that objective or am I making a decision that is going to sidetrack us?'”
– Dr. John Lechleiter,
