Happy childhood memories are made on the playground. For our neighborhood children, Shepherd Community Center is the safest place where they can just be kids. They run, jump, imagine, and play at Shepherd every day of the week, all year.
But in the neighborhoods where our students and their families live, a safe place to play and be active is few and far between. Neighborhood playgrounds require a long walk and constant adult supervision, which isn’t always possible. Shepherd is where parents can know their children are safe all day. Shepherd’s playground is a place for children to be active, play, and just be kids without fear. For 40 years, Shepherd has built, expanded, and renovated our playground spaces to make them durable and safe for neighborhood kids. We fenced in areas, extended the grass, and built a higher net to keep stray balls on Shepherd’s property.
In partnership with the Indiana Pacers, we also installed cement basketball courts. In 2023, thanks to the generosity of donors and partners, Shepherd raised enough money to upgrade the playground to new surfaces and turf fields, making our play areas safer and facilities cleaner for our neighborhood children and their families for years to come!
Our playground is a place of refuge and adventure for our Shepherd kids – from preschool to high school age – where they can be kids every day of the week, all year long. As we continue to expand for the next 40 years, we celebrate our newest edition, the Shepherd Community Health & Wholeness Center.
The Shepherd Community Health & Wholeness Center will create a safe place for moms and dads to bring their children, no matter the season, making it the perfect place to stay and enjoy being a kid. At Shepherd, our families can depend on us to be there, believing in them, and helping them when they are unsure of what to do for their families for the next 40 years.
